This tutorial was written February 15, 2008 by InkkFreakk.
The author of this tutorial assumes you have some basic working knowledge of Paint shop Pro and Animation Shop.
My goal is to write my tutorials with beginners in mind but still appeal to advanced users.
Any variations and creations you create by following it will be yours.
Please do not upload to any websites, rewrite it, translate it,
pass it among your friends without written permission from me or claim it as your own.
Any similarity to other tutorials is unintentional.
My tutorials are written for Paint shop Pro 9 but will work for other versions as well.
If at any time you feel you know your psp well enough to alter steps to achieve the same thing feel free to do so.
After all tutorials are only guidelines. You should always try to deviate from the tutorial and make your creation different while still learning the methods and techniques.

Tips are shown in blue throughout the tutorial.

Remember to save your image after each step
Step 1
===================
Open cd-Pinkie.pspimage file in psp
Crtl=D to duplicate image, close original file
Image is 520 x 380, this will be the size of your tag.
Hide credit layer or delete and do your own
MENU~Image/Reduce “Pinkie” layer to 80%
Resample using Smart size
Lock aspect ratio checked
Resize all layers unchecked
MENU~Adjust/sharpness/sharpen x 1 time
MENU~Effects\3D Effects\DropShadow
Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100
Blur 8.00
Color Black
Shadow on new layer unchecked
At this point you will need to choose either Step 2~Method 1 or Step 2~Method 2
DO NOT DO BOTH STEPS
Step 2~Method 1 Simple Tubing (optional)

If you do this step please skip Step 2~Method 2 and move on to Step 3
Increase size of your tag by scrolling your mouse wheel to 300%
TOOLS~Selection tool\Freehand Selection
Point to Point
Feather 2
Smoothing 1
Anti-alias checked
Trace around her face as best you can at the edge of the skin area.
Click in small steps for best results.
DO NOT DESELECT YET
Once you have it traced you will then go to Selections\Promote Selection to a layer.
Now you will have a layer with her face only and the one with both hair and face.
Activate the layer you did the selection on, one with face and hair.
Press the delete key. The part inside your selection line will be gone.
MENU~Selections\Select none
Rename your hair only layer to “Hair”
Rename your promoted layer to “Face” layer.
Right click layer then left click arrange\move down
It should be directly below your “Hair” layer.
SKIP TO STEP 3
Step 2~Method 2
***Proceed with this step if skipping Step 2~Method 1 Simple Tubing (optional) above***

Activate “Hair” layer
TOOLS~Selection Tool\Freehand Selection
Point to Point
Mode Add shift
Feather 0
Smoothing 1
Draw little areas in the hair that wish to be glittery.
You can follow the outlines of the hair sections or whatever you like.
***TIP*** After you draw the first one you will need to hold shift while you draw the others.
Duplicate your “Hair” layer so you have 8 layers total.
Hide all but the bottom one
CONTINUE ON WITH STEP 3
Step 3
======================
Activate “Hair” layer,
MENU~Selections\Select all\Float\Defloat
MENU~Selections\Select all\Modify\Contract by 5,
click ok
DO NOT DESELECT
Right click “Hair” layer and duplicate. Do this until you have 8 “Hair” layers total.
Red x all layers but the bottom one
Go back to the bottom one named “Hair”, activate it.
MENU~Adjust\add remove noise\add noise\
Uniform checked
Monochrome checked
50%
click ok .
Red x the “Hair” layer u just did. Then un x the next layer, repeat noise effect changing the % by -3 each time.
So the next layer would be 47%, then 44% and so on.
do this on each “Hair” layer leaving the other settings the same.
Go back to bottom “Hair” layer, un hide it, make sure all others are hidden.
MENU~Selections\Select none
Step 4
=======================
Activate your “Face” layer
Duplicate it until you have 8 layers.
Hide all face layers but the bottom one.
Hide all other layers but the bottom “Face” and bottom “Hair” layers
Rick click “Face” layer,
Merge\Merge visible
This will merge the hair and face layers together
Rename this layer “Pinkie 1”
Hide this layer and then unhide the next one of the face and hair layers.
Repeat the next steps until all 8 of the hair and face layers are merged
Rick click “Face” layer,
Merge\Merge visible
Rename this layer “Pinkie 2”
Hide this layer and then unhide the next one of the “Face” and “Hair” layers.
You should then only have 8 layers of “Face” and “Hair” combined, named “Pinkie 1” through “Pinkie 8”
Now hide all of these layers, you will use them again later.
Step 5
=====================
Open the dmmask97.PsPmask file in psp , minimize it, u will use it in a minute.
Add a new raster layer, right click layer in layer palette, send to bottom,
Flood fill with white, then hide this layer for now.
Rename this layer “White”
Right click “White” in the layer palette, left click new raster layer, left click ok, this will make a new raster layer directly above “White”. This will be Raster 2.
Floodfill with white again. You will add your mask to this layer.
Activate Raster 2 by clicking it in the layer palette.
MENU~Layers\new mask layer\from image\ choose the dmmask97.PsPmask file.
Source luminance checked.
Invert mask data checked
Merge group. This layer will now be called Group Raster 2.
Rename this layer “Mask”.
***TIP***
When you left click a layer to make it the active one then right click and new raster layer then ok,
it will make a new raster layer directly above the layer you have made active.
This will come in handy for layer placement in making tags.
Step 6
=====================
Open the inkkfreakk-checkerboard.pspimage. There is a grey layer and a purple layer.
You will use the grey layer only.
Add a new raster layer above “Mask” layer.
MENU~Selections\Select all
Make the checkerboard image active.
Edit\copy
Activate tag your working on
Edit\paste into selection
MENU~Adjust\Hue and Saturation\Colorize
Settings of 255 and 255.
Right click layer then left click arrange\move down
It will now be below your “Mask” layer.
Drop the opacity of this layer to 30%
Rename this layer “Checkerboard”
Step 7
=======================
Make sure all other layers are hidden
Unhide and activate your “Checkerboard” layer
Unhide and activate your “White” layer
Merge\Merge visible
Duplicate it until you have 8 layers total.
Rename them “Checker 1” through “Checker 8”
Hide all of these you will use them later
As of this step you now have 8 layers each of
“Mask”
“Pinkie”
“Checkers”
for a total of 24 layers
ALL HIDDEN
At this point you can add some brushes on a new raster layer
It is best to make them very faint if you do.
I have provided the brush file if you want to use it.
You will want to rename this layer Brushes and duplicate it until you have 8 layers
At this point you can also add a new raster layer and add any scrap elements you wish to use
Remember that for every layer you make you will need 8 of each one to merge for the completed tag
You will want to rename this layer Scraps and duplicate it until you have 8 layers
Step 7a~Brush layer (optional)
============================
For PSP to read the brush file you will need to do the following
MENU~File\Preferences\File Locations
Highlight Brushes in the left column
Click the Add button on the right
Find where you saved the brush file to
Both folder option boxes check marked
Then when you have it in the box
Click ok
Right click “Checkers 8” layer
New Raster layer
Now you will go to
TOOLS~Brushes and in your tool bar at the top you will find the brush you added
Now you will place it where you want…
I did the upper left hand corner
Then I duplicated that layer
Image\Mirror
Then I duplicated that layer
Image\Flip
Then I duplicated that layer
Image\Mirror
On that layer
Merge\merge down
Do this 3 more times
Now all the brush layers will be 1 single layer
Reduce Opacity to 14%
Duplicate this layer until you have 8 layers total
Hide all but the bottom one
Make sure all other layers are hidden
Unhide the bottom “Checker 1” layer
Merge\Merge Visible
Repeat this for all 8 new raster and checker layers.
Rename these layers “Checker 1-8” again
Hide all but the bottom layer “Checker 1”
Step 8
=====================
TOOLS~Selection Tool\Selection
Rectangle
Add shift
Feather 0
Click the little icon that says “Custom Selection” next the “Create Selection from”
Top 10
Left 10
Right 510
Bottom 370
Click ok
A Marching Ants box will now be there.
DO NOT DESELECT
Make sure the bottom “Checker 1” layer is the active one
Step 9
========================
Start Animation Shop and open your “a_s_00_663_01_011.gif”
Activate the first frame of the animation. There are 8 total.
MENU~Edit\Copy
Reduce animation shop
Go back to PSP
MENU~Edit\Paste as New Image
Make sure the bottom “Checker 1” layer is the active one
MATERIALS PALETTE~click your foreground color box
Click the pattern tab, then choose the hearts image
Angle 0
Scale 100
Click ok
Floodfill inside the selection
Close the new animation image you pasted
Hide this layer and activate the next one up
Step 10
======================
***TIP***
Check each layer as shown in Step 11 as you go.
This will help you to make sure you are doing the animation correctly.
Also make sure you are choosing the proper frame each time you repeat the steps.
Repeat the steps below 7 more times
Activate the next frame of the animation by clicking it.
MENU~Edit\Copy
Reduce animation shop
Go back to PSP
MENU~Edit\Paste as New Image
MATERIALS PALETTE~click your foreground color box
Click the pattern tab, then choose the hearts image
Angle 0
Scale 100
Click ok
Flood fill inside the selection
Hide this layer and activate the next one up
Close the new animation image you pasted
Step 11
===========================
After you have pasted hearts into each layer
You will want to check AGAIN to see if the animation worked properly
Hide all layers but the “Checkers 1” layer.
One by one move up and unhide the layers.
Watch the hearts. Are they shifting with each layer?
If yes then you did it correctly.
If they are not then you will need to undo your steps back to where you have 8 checker layers.
Then you will need to repeat Steps 8, 9, 10 and check again.
Once you have the hearts correct then move on to Step 12.
Step 12
=============================
MENU~Selections\Select None
Activate the bottom layer of each of your different layers.
1 each of
Pinkie
Mask
Brush (if u did one)
Scrap elements (if u did one)
Checkers
Make sure all other layers are hidden
Merge\Merge Visible
Hide this layer
Unhide the next in line for each set of layers and repeat merge
This should bring u down to only 8 layers.
Rename these layers “Final”
Save your image
Open your saved file in Animation shop
MENU~View\Animation
Are the hearts floating like in the original gif file?
Is her hair all pretty and glittery?
If so then you are ready to add your name and credits.
Close this file
Move on to step 13
Step 13
==============================
You will need to add the credit for the image you just used.
The proper Copyright for this image is

Place this in an area that will be out of the way of the name you will add later..

I used Pixelette Font Size 6 Antialias off
I used color #8a1212
For the Phrase “CapriciousDream’s Candie Kisses”
I used the color #db9393 for the fill
I used color #8a1212 for the stroke of 1.
The font I used was Platinum but chose any you like.
MENU~Effects\3D Effects\DropShadow
Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100
Blur 8.00
Color Black
Shadow on new layer unchecked
Convert to raster layer
Rename this layer “Copyright”
Hide all layers but the bottom of “Copyright” and “Final”
Merge\Merge Visible
Do all layers till you are back down to 8
Now save your file.
Open our image in Animation shop and resave as a gif file and your done
If any supplies I have provided belong to you and I have failed to credit you
Please contact me and I can either give proper credit in the tutorial or remove them.
