This tutorial was written August 31, 2007 by InkkFreakk.

The author of this tutorial assumes you have some basic working knowledge of Paint shop Pro and Animation Shop.

My goal is to write my tutorials with beginners in mind but still appeal to advanced users.

Any variations and creations you create by following it will be yours.

Please do not upload to any websites, rewrite it, translate it,

pass it among your friends without written permission from me or claim it as your own.

Any similarity to other tutorials is unintentional.

My tutorials are written for Paint shop Pro X1 but will work for other versions as well.

If at any time you feel you know your PSP well enough to alter steps to achieve the same thing feel free to do so.

After all tutorials are only guidelines. You should always try to deviate from the tutorial and make your creation different while still learning the methods and techniques.

My tutorials are registered at TWI

For this Tutorial you will need

Paint Shop Pro

At the bottom of this tutorial is a list of fonts and settings that I have found useful

***NOTE BEFORE YOU BEGIN***

This method is the one I always use.

It works for me so I wrote this little tutorial for others as it might come in handy for someone else too. Once you have done your credits or watermark you can do drop shadows behind it to offset it and make it more visible

BASIC BLACK WATERMARK

1~Open PSP , then open a new image 400 (wide)x 150 (high)

Create as raster layer, 16 million colors and transparent

This is only to practice doing the watermarks.

Once you have learned how you will be doing these on your tags or creations instead of the new image.

2~Activate your text tool.

We will practice with the following copyright.

But after you have learned you will use whatever artists name you need to go with the tube you used…

© InkkFreakk inkkfreakk.wordpress.com

I always use either…

1 space between the copyright symbol and the artists name

3 spaces between the artist name and web link address.

Or

You can also do space*space where the 3 spaces would be, that also looks very good

If you don’t it will look very squished together and then it won’t be readable……

3~Let’s choose your settings

Choose the Arial Font, Size 8, create as vector, Stroke 0, Anti-Alias OFF (it is usually set to Sharp)

Background color to black

Foreground doesn’t matter as long as your stroke width is set to zero.

When you set anti-alias to off it makes certain fonts clearer to read when they are smaller.

Try the others to see the difference.

4~Now lets make your text

Activate your text tool.

Click in the middle of your new image to bring up the text box.

Then you will copy and paste the copyright I supplied in step 2, then paste it into the text box.

MAKE SURE THE TEXT IN YOUR BOX IS HIGHLIGHTED AS IF YOU WERE GOING TO COPY BEFORE YOU CONTINUE…..

At this point you will want to make sure your settings are still what you chose in step three.

Sometimes when you copy and paste it alters them to be what the item is that you pasted into the box.

Also sometimes with a copyright symbol it will kick all the text after it down a line.

Make sure it hasn’t done that. If it has then bring the text back up where it is suppose to be.

One more thing, DO NOT copy and paste from anything but a notepad file, psp has issues sometimes with other

File formats and will become slow or lock up.

5~Now lets apply….

Apply your text. Now you will have a simple watermark in the center of your canvas.

Right click your vector layer in the layer palette and Convert it to a raster layer.

Activate the Raster 1 layer that was already there by left clicking.

You can right click the color squares for background and foreground to get simple colors or whatever gradients you have recently used.

Flood fill this layer with a color you like. I chose white.

6~Let’s try rotating it.

Activate the layer with the copyright.

Click the deform tool, it’s the one directly under the hand in version 9 PSP

Your ant box and nodes will appear around your watermark.

Go to the top of your PSP and click Image/Rotate/free rotate.

In the box that pops up you will want to check the following.

Direction: Left

Degrees: Free

In the box for the amount type in 20.00

Click ok

Now it will look like this…. ^

see how it came out blurry?

Lets try to make it clear again.

Click Adjust, Sharpness, sharpen,

See how it didn’t make much difference?

Anything but straight on and 90 degrees will make it blurry…

So what we need to do is rotate it 90 degrees. Let’s see how that turns out.

Do the same settings as above , only this time check 90 in the degrees box.

Notice how it turns and is partially gone…

We can fix that without starting over.

Go to…. Image/canvas size.

Now change the settings to …

Width: 300

Height: 300

Pixels

Placement arrows… make sure you have the center one so it looks like it is recessed.

Click ok.

Now you will have a canvas that will have transparent sections at the top and bottom.

Activate the layer you flood filled with your color. And flood fill it again… It will be all ok now.

now your image will be 300 x 300

now just use the basic steps to place your watermark or credits n your tags.

Try different colors to match your tags or different fonts.

Have fun with it…. After all isn’t that what PSP is about?

6~Now let’s try it with 2 colors

Follow all the steps above then do the steps below

LAYER PALETTE~right click the vector layer of your credit/duplicate

Now you will hide the top vector layer by clicking the eye in the layer palette

Activate your bottom vector layer

Click on the text to change it. You MUST MAKE sure your cursor looks like this….[A] with the crosshairs

Once you have your edit box open

MATERIALS PALETTE~foreground stroke box/right click and choose a lighter color like white, light blue, pink

MATERIALS PALETTE~background and fill box/right click and choose same color as the other one

MENU~text bar/change stroke width to 3/change antialias to smooth

Now you will have solid thick letters.

Click apply

DO NOT convert to raster yet!

Unhide your other vector layer and see how the bottom layer highlights the top one.

7~ Now let’s merge the layers

Once you are happy with the way it looks you can merge them

Convert each vector layer to a raster

To merge right click the top layer and then merge/merge down

And your done.
